Organizing Your Library with Folders
This guide covers how to create folders, move items, and structure your study space for maximum efficiency.
A clear workspace leads to a clear mind. As you upload more lectures and generate more summaries, your acemate Library can grow quickly. Using folders is the best way to keep your materials structured so you can find exactly what you need, right when you need it.
1. Creating a New Folder
Setting up a structure takes just a few seconds directly from your sidebar.
Step 1: Open the Files Menu
Navigate to the Files section in your course sidebar.
Step 2: Create the Folder
Click the blue + Add button next to the Files header.
From the dropdown menu that appears, select New Folder.
A new text box will appear inline in your list (defaulting to "Untitled"). Type your desired name (e.g., "Test Folder" or "Calculus Lectures").
Press Enter to save the new folder.
You can click on the plus icon (+) next to the folder to upload files into the folder directly. See Uploading Documents
2. Moving Items into Folders
Once your folders are ready, you can organize your documents simply by dragging them.
Method: Drag & Drop
The fastest way to organize files is directly within the sidebar:
Locate the document you want to move (it might be sitting loosely under "Files" or inside another folder).
Click and hold the file name.
Drag it over the destination folder until the folder is highlighted.
Release to drop it inside. The file will instantly move to its new home.
3. Renaming & Deleting Items
Need to fix a typo or clear out old drafts? You can manage your files directly in your Private course sidebar.
Hover your mouse over the file or folder you wish to modify.
Click the 3 vertical dots icon (โฎ) that appears next to the item name.
Select the action you need:
Rename: To give the item a new title.
Delete: To permanently remove the item from your library.
4. Ideas for Folder Structures
Not sure how to organize? Here are a few proven structures used by successful students:
By Course (Subject-Based):
๐ Calculus II
๐ Microeconomics
๐ Statistics
By Time Period (Chronological):
๐ Winter Semester 24/25
๐ Summer Semester 25
By Content Type:
๐ Lecture Slides
๐ Practice Exams
๐ AI Summaries
By Goal (Exam Focused):
๐ Midterm Prep
๐ Final Exam Review
5. Best Practices for a Clean Library
Be Specific: A folder named "Biology" is good, but "Bio 101 - Cell Structure" is better. Specific names save you searching time later.
Keep it Flat: Avoid creating too many layers of folders inside folders. A hierarchy of 2โ3 levels is usually enough to stay organized without getting lost.
Regular Cleanup: Once a semester, review your library. Archive or delete outdated material to keep your active workspace focused on your current goals.
