Workspace Tips and Best Practices
Tips for Getting the Most Out of the Workspace
A few small habits can make your study sessions much more effective. These best practices will help you navigate acemate’s split-screen interface like a pro.
1. Master the "Cmd + K" Shortcut
Instead of manually clicking through folders to find your next lecture, use the Quick Navigator.
The Habit: Press
Cmd + K(Mac) orCtrl + K(Windows) whenever you want to switch topics. Why: It keeps your hands on the keyboard and instantly swaps the content of your current panel without disrupting your layout.
2. Respect the 3-Panel Limit
The Workspace is designed to keep you focused by allowing a maximum of 3 active panels at once (e.g., Lectures + Notes + Chat).
The Behavior: If you try to open a fourth tool (like Flashcards), Acemate will automatically close one of the side panels to make room.
The Tip: Before opening a new tool, decide which existing panel you are done with. If you are finished reading, close the "Lectures" panel first to ensure your "Notes" and "Chat" stay open.
3. Don't Copy-Paste: Use Floating Actions
You rarely need to copy text manually. Acemate’s floating context menus are faster:
For Explanations: Highlight a confusing paragraph in your lecture and immediately click "Explain with AI". This gives the AI the exact context it needs.
For Flashcards: Highlight a definition in your Notes and click "Create flashcard". It auto-fills the card so you only have to type the answer.
4. Optimize Your Screen Layout
Adjust your panel sizes based on your current "Study Mode":
Reading Mode: Drag the Lecture panel to be wide (60% of screen) and keep Notes narrow (40%) for quick bullet points.
Drill Mode: Close the Lecture panel entirely. Open Notes (Left) and Flashcards (Right) side-by-side to rapidly convert your summaries into study decks.
5. Keep the AI Focused
If the AI gives you generic answers, check the Context Selector at the bottom of the Chat panel.
The Tip: Switch from "All Lectures" to the specific folder you are studying (e.g., "Test Folder 02"). This forces the AI to ignore irrelevant documents and give you a precise answer.
6. Performance Management
Close Unused Files: If you have very large PDFs open that you aren't reading, close them using the
Xon the panel tab.Browser Tabs: Try to keep your Workspace in a single browser tab. Opening multiple Acemate tabs can sometimes split your session history.
